Mr. Speaker, before Members finish this Sitting and go their separate ways ‘til the House sits again, I wanted to take a few moments to reflect on our experiences together over the past few weeks and the past two years.
When the 19 of us met in November 2015 as newly-elected Members, we agreed that the 18th Legislative Assembly needed to change the way it does business. I supported that priority then and I still support it today. So too, I believe, do all my other colleagues on both sides of this House.

Mr. Speaker, the NWT is on the front lines of climate change and has been experiencing its impacts for decades. Our government is committed to addressing the threats that climate change poses to the sustainability of our communities and the way of life of our residents.
The Government of the Northwest Territories is actively engaged in a comprehensive and coordinated response to climate change by developing a Climate Change Strategic Framework, which will guide our efforts on climate change from 2018 to 2030.

Mr. Speaker, over the past year, the Department of Education, Culture and Employment has continued to make and implement significant changes in its programs for families, seniors and students across the Northwest Territories.

Mr. Speaker, this government is committed to improving access to services and enhancing community wellness and safety through the implementation of a territorial 9-1-1 Program.
I would like to describe some of the key steps the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs has taken to ensure that 9-1-1 becomes a reality for the territory and that the 9-1-1 Program benefits all of our communities.

Mr. Speaker, having a clear, consistent and predictable approach to how the Government of the Northwest Territories manages the land it is responsible for is important to all land users and stakeholders in the territory.
It is also important that the people we serve understand how land in the NWT is administered and that we continually evaluate opportunities and issues associated with various types of land tenure.

Mr. Speaker, this week is Family Violence Awareness Week in the Northwest Territories. The theme this year is “Healthy Relationships, Healthy Communication.” There are events occurring across the Northwest Territories between October 16th and October 22nd to bring attention to family violence and promote healthier ways for people to deal with conflict.
