Job Information

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Long Term Care provides holistic, culturally sensitive nursing care to residents of the Sahtu- Dene Necha- Ko - Long Term Care Facility. They assess residents, respond to health concerns, carry out interventions, and evaluate outcomes while leading and supervising support staff. 
The LPN may act as the Responsibility Nurse during evenings and weekends and makes independent decisions within their scope, consulting an RN when needed. They also advocate for residents, support communication with families and the care team, and may care for up to 20 residents, requiring ongoing monitoring and sound clinical judgment.
 

Key Responsibilities:
-  Provide direct nursing care - assess residents, follow care plans, administer medications/treatments, and document care. 
-  Support daily living needs - assist with personal care, mobility, and therapeutic activities while promoting dignity and comfort. 
-  Collaborate with the care team - share information, join care conferences, and work with interdisciplinary staff to ensure continuity of care. 
-  Lead and supervise - guide PSWs and other staff, ensure safe staffing levels, and take a leadership role during emergencies. 
-  Maintain a safe environment - practice safe lifting, report equipment issues, monitor supplies, and follow facility safety and emergency protocols.
 

Key Qualifications:
-  A Licensed Practical Nurse Diploma
- Must be eligible for current registration with the College and Association of Nurses of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut (CANNN)

Labour Market Supplement

The successful incumbent will receive a $12,000 supplement upon hire and an additional $12,000 supplement after completion of 12 months of continuous employment contingent on remaining employed in an eligible position for a further 12 months.   This is a taxable benefit and will be subject to applicable deductions.
