Job Information

The Food Services Supervisor at the Fort Smith Correctional Complex oversees all food service operations and administration, ensuring they meet territorial guidelines and correctional standards. The role supports safe custody, rehabilitation, and reintegration of individuals in custody while aligning with the Corrections Mission, Vision, and Values.

Reporting to the Warden, the supervisor manages a budget of about $250,000 and oversees food services for up to 50 people, including staff and inmates. The position includes supervising staff and inmate work crews, maintaining operational priorities, training new employees, managing vendor accounts and compliance paperwork, and running an apprenticeship cook program for offenders.

The role is directed by legislation (Federal-Corrections Conditional Release Act, Corrections Conditional Release Act, Prison and Reformatories Act, Criminal Code of Canada, Youth Criminal Justice Act, Youth Justice Act, Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and Territorial GNWT Corrections Act, Corrections Regulations, Public Service Act, Access to Information Privacy Protection Act); and specific policies (Corrections Service Directives, Territorial Safety Acts and Legislation and the HR Manual). 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manages the food service operation of the facility.
  • Manages the safe and secure custody of persons in custody within the facility to ensure the safety of society, persons in custody and staff.
  • Provides personnel management to ensure an effective, efficient and motivated staff and a safe and secure working environment.

Key Qualifications:

  • Completion of the Real Seal trades certificate (three-year program) is required and a two-year food service management diploma with three years of relevant experience including one-year supervisory role. 
  • First Aid and CPR certified 
  • Class 5 Drivers License

The salary for this position starts at $49.68 per hour (approximately $96,876. per annum) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $7,723.
