Department Information
The Department of Infrastructure (INF) provides high quality services to the public and Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) departments, boards and agencies including the planning, design, construction, acquisition, operation and maintenance of public transportation infrastructure and the buildings, works and equipment required for the GNWT to deliver its programs and services. INF makes essential petroleum products available for sale to the public where these products are not provided by the private sector, and promotes the development and increased use of energy efficient technologies. INF also regulates electrical and mechanical safety services and licenses individuals and vehicles operating in the territory.

Job Information
Located in Inuvik and reporting to the Regional Manager, Finance & Administration, the incumbent provides administrative support for the Regional Manager as well as other staff within the Regional Office (4 managers plus approximately 17 additional staff) as required.
The incumbent often works independently within established procedures for the position. Although most of the work is self-initiated, advice and guidance may be solicited from the Regional Manager. The incumbent is required to carry out functions in a professional manner to maintain the professional image of the Department's Regional Office.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge and experience to apply standard office and administrative procedures within protocols
- Knowledge of several software areas such as word processing, spreadsheets, presentation graphics, and financial management systems
- Verbal and written communication skills to communicate with staff, community and land claimant staff and the public in a professional manner
- Planning, time management and scheduling skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of all incoming and outgoing correspondence and discussions
- Ability to write, edit and format documentation so that they are clear, easy to understand and generally follow the rules of correct grammar, punctuation and spelling
- Ability to work in a high stress multi-tasking environment with tight deadlines and changing priorities
Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:
Completion of a Secretarial Certificate and 1 year of administrative and records experience.
Equivalencies:
Office Administration/Business Administration Certificate and 1 year of Administration experience in a client-based service environment.
