Department Information

The Department of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE) provides the residents of the Northwest Territories with access to quality programs, services and support to assist them in making informed and productive choices for themselves and their families with regard to education, training, careers, employment and labour, child development, languages, culture and heritage.

Job Information

The Executive Secretary provides administrative support to four Assistant Deputy Ministers.  The incumbent is responsible for administrative services for three Branches, including all correspondence and documents received for the Assistant Deputy Ministers.   The incumbent managers the flow of paper to the Directors¿ administrative assistants as well, deals with the public, other departments, Indigenous organizations, headquarters and regional staff and non-government organizations.

Key Responsibilities
-    Provide administrative support to the Directorate.
-    Maintain accurate and readily accessible records for the Directorate.

Key Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
-    Tact and diplomacy and ability to work with highly confidential material
-    Understanding of GNWT procedures
-    Good verbal and written communications skills
-    Ability to work under pressure and meet strict timelines.

Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:
A Secretarial / Office / Business Administration Diploma and one (1) year of related experience.
