Accurate land cover maps are critical to our understanding of how water moves across the landscape and necessary to predict impacts of climate change on water resources. Wilfrid Laurier University researchers created and tested a new method to map land cover types – such as forests, bogs and fens – in the headwaters of the Scotty Creek basin, located in the southern Taiga Plains ecozone approximately 55 kilometres south of Fort Simpson, Northwest Territories (NWT).

Fighting Rabies in the North, one Vaccine Clinic at a Time

GNWT staff have been helping keep communities and their furry friends healthy and safe.

Responding to recent positive rabies tests in foxes and dogs in Tuktoyaktuk, two veterinarians (from Vets Without Borders and ENR) traveled to remote northern communities to help with community-run free rabies vaccine clinics for dogs.

Residents of Tuktoyaktuk, Paulatuk, and Sachs Harbour were able to get their pet dogs vaccinated at day clinics offered in each community.
