Overview

The goal of CHAP is to support harvesting as an important cultural practice. CHAP intends to provide opportunities for community members access country foods for subsistence and promote the continuation of traditional practices, land-based livelihoods and the traditional economy.

Eligibility

The Community Harvesters’ Assistance Program (CHAP) provides funding annually to NWT Indigenous governments or Indigenous organizations (Renewable Resources Councils, Hunters and Trappers Committee, etc.).

Funding is available for the purchase of tools, supplies and small equipment that are essential to store, process and preserve food while harvesting on the land and may go towards travel expenses related to the hunts or harvest.
