Prepare for wildfire with FireSmart NWT

FireSmart tools for industry + critical infrastructure

Be Part Of A FireSmart NWT

In the same way every individual has a role to play in keeping the NWT prepared for wildfires, so does every industry. We’re here to help you get started.

Mining and oil and gas

Most mining, exploration, and oil and gas activity takes place in forested areas. All site managers have a responsibility to prevent wildfires and take steps to reduce their impact.

Construction

Builders and developers can make a difference by planning FireSmart developments from the start.

This is a good move for your community, but often financially as well – if you are building in a high risk area, then taking steps to build FireSmart can reduce the risk of damage of your assets.

Use this guide to be FireSmart from the start.

Critical infrastructure

During severe wildfires, it may not be safe or possible for firefighters to protect every public and private asset.

Those who maintain telecommunications infrastructure, roads, bridges, hospitals, and other critical infrastructure and facilities have a responsibility to plan and prepare for wildfires.

Use these tools to help make a FireSmart plan to make sure your critical facilities are ready before wildfires come.
