Louis Sebert: Department of Justice Progress Report on Governance - Access and Privacy

Mr. Speaker, our government has committed in its mandate to improve access to information and the protection of privacy, which includes taking a number of steps. Today I would like to provide an update on this work, starting off with information on the comprehensive review of the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

Ministerial Restorative Justice Award 2016 Presented to Hay River Principal

HAY RIVER (December 9, 2016) - The Minister of Justice announced today,  Lynne Beck, Principal of Diamond Jenness High School in Hay River has won  the 2016 Restorative Justice Award for her significant contributions to establishing restorative justice practices in her school as an alternative form of discipline.

The award is presented each year through a nomination process. Lynne Beck was nominated by her peers to acknowledge the positive difference and change for the better within the school through policies she has instituted.

David Ramsay: New Women’s Correctional Facility for Fort Smith

Mr. Speaker, Fort Smith has a long history of supporting correctional facilities located within their community.  As a result, inmates in these facilities have had the benefit of community acceptance as they work through their rehabilitation process and make plans for release.  For the adult female offenders housed in Fort Smith, this community support has been especially beneficial in their rehabilitation process.
