February 9, 2011 - The President of the Northwest Territory Métis Nation, Betty Villebrun, today signed the agreement-in-principle (AiP) on devolution formalizing their intent to be a part of negotiations towards a final agreement.

The AiP was previously signed by Northwest Territories Premier Floyd K. Roland, Chair of the Inuvialuit Regional Corporation Ms. Nellie Cournoyea, and Canadian Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and Federal Interlocutor for Métis and Non-Status Indians Mr. John Duncan.

February 3, 2011 - Today, Finance Minister J. Michael Miltenberger presented the territorial Government’s 2011-12 Budget.

February 2, 2011 - Premier Floyd K. Roland says he’s committed to keeping the devolution process moving forward and hopes a shared vision for a better future will encourage Aboriginal leaders to join and be part of the process whenever they are ready.

“In this Assembly, at the Northern Leaders table, and in our communities, we have sought and found unity when we have focussed on the future,” the Premier said today in his Sessional statement to Members of the 16th Legislative Assembly.

February 2, 2011 - In his Sessional Statement to Members of the Legislative Assembly, Premier Floyd K. Roland today highlighted how the devolution agreement-in-principle (AiP) has moved the Assembly closer to achieving its goal of a strong and independent Territory.

Mr. Speaker, I'd like to welcome Members back to the House. I look forward to working with all of you during this last Budget Session of the 16th Legislative Assembly. 

January 26, 2011 - During the devolution agreement-in-principle signing, Premier Roland highlighted the benefits of signing the AiP. 

First of all Minister Duncan, on behalf of all NWT residents, I say “welcome” on your latest visit to the Northwest Territories in your capacity as Minister of Indian and Northern Affairs. January 26, 2011 - The Honourable John Duncan, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and Federal Interlocutor for Métis and Non-Status Indians, the Honourable Floyd Roland, Premier of the Northwest Territories, and Nellie Cournoyea, Chair of the Inuvialuit Regional Corporation, today signed an agreement-in-principle for devolution of lands and resources from Canada to the Government of the Northwest Territories.

January 21, 2011 - Later this week, Canada and the Northwest Territories will sign an agreement-in-principle to negotiate the devolution of Crown land and resources to the Government of the Northwest Territories.

Devolution is the key to unlocking the full potential of our territory.

After years of negotiations, we finally have an agreement-in-principle that can serve as the basis for negotiating a final devolution agreement that will create real economic benefits for all NWT residents.

January 19, 2011 - Mr. David Krutko, MLA Mackenzie Delta, along with the Minister of House, Robert C. McLeod, and the Minister of Health and Social Services, Sandy Lee, will be hosting a public meeting on the Joe Greenland Center.

January 13, 2011 - The comment deadline for the new NWT/Nunavut Safety Regulations will be extended to March 31, 2011. “Many members of the NWT Construction Association and the NWT Chamber of Commerce have requested more time to examine the potential effect that the proposed changes to the Safety Regulations will have in the NWT,” said Minister McLeod. “With the extension, stakeholders will have time to examine the proposed regulations in a coordinated manner and provide meaningful feedback to the Safety Regulation Review Committee.”

January 11, 2011 - The Standing Committee on Economic Development and Infrastructure is hosting community meetings on the proposed new Dog Act for the Northwest Territories.

This is an opportunity for residents to learn about the proposed new Dog Act and provide their input on this important legislation before it is passed in the Legislative Assembly during the 2011 winter session.

Meetings are planned during the next several weeks.
