Fire ban in place for several Dehcho and South Slave Territorial Parks

YELLOWKNIFE (June 26, 2015) – Weather conditions are extremely hot and dry throughout the Northwest Territories. A fire ban is in effect for the following parks:

  • Sambaa Deh Falls Territorial Park
  • Blackstone Territorial Park
  • Fort Providence Territorial Park

In addition to the fire ban, Little Buffalo River Falls Territorial Park is closed to the public until further notice.

Fire ban in place for Fred Henne and Yellowknife River Territorial Parks

YELLOWKNIFE (May 27, 2015) – Consistent with the fire ban implemented by the City of Yellowknife, a fire ban is in effect for Fred Henne and Yellowknife River Territorial Parks effective immediately.

Use of camp stoves and enclosed barbecues is permitted. Any device that uses propane to supply a burner for heating and or cooking is also permitted; such devices must be used within or on top of a fire pit in a campsite or wayside park.

Online reservations for NWT campgrounds open tomorrow

YELLOWKNIFE (April 14, 2015) – Residents and visitors can begin booking their favourite Northwest Territories (NWT) campsites at nwtparks.ca beginning at 10:00am tomorrow.

The GNWT’s online reservation system allows campers to select and book campsites in 16 campgrounds across the NWT.   In addition to listing campsite costs and power options, the online reservation system includes campground maps, photos and recommended unit sizes to facilitate a smooth and hassle-free booking.

NWT Minister of Education hosts sessions on innovation in Aboriginal education

BANFF, AB (March 27, 2015) – Minister of Education, Culture and Employment Jackson Lafferty hosted sessions on new and innovative approaches to education in the North at the 5th International Summit on the Teaching Professions (ISTP) in Banff, Alberta on March 29-30, 2015.

On March 28th, Minister Lafferty took part in discussions surrounding the critical changes that we must make to ensure that education is relevant and equitable for Aboriginal students.

YELLOWKNIFE (November 29, 2012) – Media are invited to a press conference on Friday, November 30th with Dr. Kami Kandola, Deputy Chief Public Health Officer with the Department of Health and Social Services and Dr. Terry Wuerz, Internist at Stanton Territorial Hospital to discuss newly developed resources for clinicians and the public pertaining to HIV/AIDS.
