Premier McLeod Issues Red Alert and Calls for Urgent National Debate on the Future of the Northwest Territories

OTTAWA (November 1, 2017) – Premier Bob McLeod issued the following statement on the future of the Northwest Territories:

“Today I am issuing a red alert and calling for an urgent national debate on the future of the Northwest Territories.

The promise of the North is fading and the dreams of northerners are dying as we see a re-emergence of colonialism.

Minister Schumann Salutes Beaufort Delta Region ahead of Cruise Ship Season

ULUKHAKTOK (August 25, 2017) – Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment, Wally Schumann, issued the following statement on the cruise ship season in the Beaufort Delta Region:

“Five cruise ships, including the 1,000-passenger Crystal Serenity, are bound for the Beaufort Delta’s coastal communities beginning this week. 

Thanks to the extraordinary foresight and preparation demonstrated by the people of Ulukhaktok, Tuktoyaktuk and Paulatuk, their communities are set to benefit from the economic opportunities that these visits are creating.

YELLOWKNIFE (August 11, 2017) – Premier Bob McLeod issued the following statement on NWT Pride weekend:

“Pride weekend is a time to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and support their human right to gender expression and gender identity, free of stigma, violence and prejudices. Appointment of Administrator under the Aurora College Act

YELLOWKNIFE (June 5, 2017) – Minister of Education, Culture and Employment Alfred Moses made the following statement today about the appointment of an administrator pursuant to Aurora College Act s. 31:

“After careful consideration, I have made a decision to appoint Mr. Denny Rodgers as Administrator of Aurora College. The Administrator will temporarily replace the Aurora College Board of Governors and assume their role and responsibilities, effective June 6, 2017.

Solution identified for Visitor Information Services

YELLOWKNIFE (May 24, 2017) - Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment Wally Schumann issued the following statement regarding Government of the Northwest Territories support for tourism in Yellowknife today:

“A temporary location for visitor-information services in Yellowknife will be established at the Prince Of Wales Northern Heritage Centre.  A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed between the Department of Education Culture and Employment (ECE) and the Northern Frontier Visitors Association (NFVA).
