Actions taken to address staff concerns within NWT healthcare system

Minister of Health and Social Services Julie Green issued the following statement:

“On Friday, December 17th, the CEO of the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority provided staff with an update on actions taken to address their concerns, spurred by the labour and delivery service reduction at Stanton Territorial Hospital.

New day shelter opens in downtown Yellowknife

Julie Green, Minister of Health and Social Services, issued the following statement on the opening of the new day shelter in Yellowknife:

“As part of our commitment to reconciliation, and to ensure that everyone can access safe shelter facilities, I’m pleased to announce that a new temporary day shelter for people experiencing homelessness opened its doors  to the homeless population this morning.

Premier Cochrane congratulates Inuvialuit Regional Corporation on advancing its self-determination

Caroline Cochrane, Premier of the Northwest Territories issued the following statement on the implementation of the Inuvialuit Qitunrariit Inuuniarnikkun Maligaksat, - Inuvialuit Family Way of Living Law by the Inuvialuit Regional Corporation:

Vaccine approval by Health Canada for children aged five to 11

Caroline Cochrane, Premier of the Northwest Territories, and Julie Green, Minister of Health and Social Services, issued the following statement on the COVID-19 vaccine approval for children aged five to 11:

“The announcement by Health Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) that children aged five to 11 are now eligible to get the Comirnaty (Pfizer) COVID-19 vaccine is an important moment in our fight against the virus.

Minister and MLA Reflect on COP26

Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Shane Thompson and Great Slave MLA Katrina Nokleby issued the following joint statement on COP26 and climate action in the NWT:

“Our territory took a strong message to COP26 this year - that the NWT has been and will continue to face some of the most significant impacts of climate change.

“While the NWT continues to do our part to reach emission targets, the northern context is unique and requires special consideration surrounding the expectations and support by the federal government.

Small Business Week October 17-23, 2021

Caroline Wawzonek, Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment, issued the following statement in recognition of Small Business Week:

                                                                

“I share the hope of many that with high vaccine uptake we have begun to turn a corner on a critical period for the Northwest Territories (NWT) during the global pandemic. Having had to face a new round of restrictions in order to address COVID-19 outbreaks in communities, small businesses across the territory have shown resiliency and strength in the face of adversity.

National Day of Truth and Reconciliation

Premier Caroline Cochrane issued the following statement on the first observance of the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation:

“Today is an opportunity to reflect and learn about the legacy of the Residential School system and its impact on Indigenous people, families and communities across the Northwest Territories and Canada. It’s also a time to remember those young children who were stolen from their homes, only to never return.
