Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment, Caroline Wawzonek provided the following statement on the 50th Yellowknife Geoscience Forum:

Minister of Health and Social Services responds to suicide statistics

Minister of Health and Social Services, Julie Green, provided the following statement on the Northwest Territories Coroner Service 2021-2022 Early Release of Suicide Data.

“Yesterday, the Northwest Territories Coroner Service reported suicide data in the NWT. These statistics show an increase in suicide deaths in 2022 relative to 2021 and the previous ten years. The report also indicates a spike in suicides in the Beaufort Delta region this year.

Premier Cochrane Reflects on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Premier Caroline Cochrane issued the following statement on the second observance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation:

“Today, we honour those who have experienced the pain caused by the residential school system that stole language, culture, and tradition from Indigenous people for decades. We honour those who survived, their families who have faced the generational impacts of the trauma and abuse thousands experienced, and the communities that continue to pick up the pieces from the lasting impacts of residential schools.

Premier confirms that September 19, 2022 will not be a holiday in the NWT

Premier Caroline Cochrane reacts to the announcement by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau that Canada will declare Monday, September 19, 2022 a holiday for federal employees:

“The Northwest Territories will not be making September 19, 2022 a statutory holiday, or a holiday for public service employees.  All government offices and service locations will be open for business as usual.

Premier issues statement on the passing of Queen Elizabeth II

Premier Cochrane issued the following statement on the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II:

“I, along with residents of the Northwest Territories, am saddened to hear of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

“For 70 years, Her Majesty dedicated her life to making the world a better place. By devoting Herself to a life of service, she helped raise millions of dollars to support over 600 charities, military associations and public service organizations around the world.

August 22-27 is Mining Week in the NWT

It’s mining week in the Northwest Territories (NWT). The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is joining with the NWT and Nunavut Chamber of Mines, and the NWT’s mining community to celebrate the importance of mineral exploration and development to our economy, our communities and our people.
