Lucy Kuptana, Minister Responsible for Housing Northwest Territories (NWT), issued the following statement on National Housing Day:

This day is an opportunity to reflect on the critical importance of housing to the stability, well-being, and prosperity of all people, especially in the North.

Premier R.J. Simpson issues statement on passing of Honourable Murray Sinclair

Premier Simpson issued the following statement today on the passing of Honourable Murray Sinclair:

I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of the Honourable Murray Sinclair. Mr. Sinclair was a prominent leader in Canada – the first Indigenous judge appointed in Manitoba, a respected lawyer, Senator and Chair of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.

 He will always be remembered for his unwavering commitment to reconciliation and dedication to championing human rights, justice, and truth.

Minister McKay issues statement on NWT's decision not to proceed with hosting the 2028 Arctic Winter Games

Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs, Vince McKay, issued the following statement today about the territory’s decision not to proceed with hosting the 2028 Arctic Winter Games:

“The Northwest Territories (NWT) has made the difficult decision to not proceed with hosting the 2028 Arctic Winter Games, which the territory was slated to host for the first time since the Games were held in the South Slave Region in 2018.

GNWT and MLA McNeely respond to Imperial Oil’s temporary fuel price reduction

Caroline Wawzonek, Deputy Premier and Minister of Finance and Infrastructure, and Sahtu MLA Danny McNeely issued the following statement today in response to Imperial Oil’s announcement to temporarily reduce the price of home heating fuel in Norman Wells.

“I am announcing a key step in our effort to recover money for our healthcare system from the cigarette companies that we claim misled Canadians for decades and caused increased healthcare costs. This legal process has already been long and complex, and we are pleased it may be moving toward a conclusion.

Minister Macdonald offers condolences following tragic helicopter crash

Today, Minister Jay Macdonald expressed his condolences following last week’s helicopter crash near Fort Good Hope:

“On June 28, 2024, the Northwest Territories experienced the tragic death of a helicopter pilot while in the line of duty for the Fort Good Hope wildfire. There are no words to express how deeply saddened I am by the loss of a member of the wildfire family.
