Minister of ITI's Energy Overview

August 26, 2011 - Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment Bob McLeod informs the house on the unprecedented 60 million dollar multi-year commitment towards energy programs and initiatives. 

Mr. Speaker, at the beginning of this Legislative Assembly, Members clearly signaled energy policy and programming as priorities and directed this government to pursue initiatives that reduce the cost of living, and in particular, energy costs.

Proposed Legal Aid Act

August 26, 2011 - Minister of Justice Jackson Lafferty introduces a draft for the new Legal Aid Act.

Mr. Speaker, later today I will table a draft Legal Aid Act and consultation paper. The Department of Justice is developing a new Legal Aid Act and is seeking comments from the public. The proposed new Legal Aid Act will provide greater clarity on governance and processes, and a more client-focused, service-oriented approach to our legal aid system.

Premier Speaks on Devolution to the House

August 26, 2011 - Premier Floyd Roland address the House with an update on the work that the GNWT has been undertaking in relation to Devolution.

Mr. Speaker, I appreciate the opportunity to provide Members of this Assembly with an update on the work our government has been undertaking related to the devolution of public lands and resources from the Government of Canada to the Government of the Northwest Territories.

Minister Update on Deh Cho Bridge

August 26, 2011 - Minister of Transportation Michael McLeod delivers remarks on the status of the Deh Cho Bridge.

Mr. Speaker, I rise to inform Members that later today, I will table a document titled GNWT Response to Standing Committee on Government Operations CR 1-16(6): Report on the Review of the Report of the Auditor General on the Northwest Territories Deh Cho Bridge Project – 2011.

Investing in Our Economic Future

August 24, 2011 - The Minister of ITI Bob McLeod has been busy promoting the NWT over the last four years. Through various partnerships, the GNWT has been able to launch a wide variety of program that showcase the beauty of the NWT, educate investors on the potential of our mineral and petroleum resources, and take steps into helping local business be more competitive with online programs like BizPal.
