Today, the Honourable Shane Thompson, Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs announced the Northwest Territories (NWT) 2021 Outstanding Volunteer Awards. These annual awards provide an opportunity to show appreciation to volunteers and volunteer organizations for their outstanding contributions in communities across the territory.
Recipients of the 2021 NWT Outstanding Volunteer Awards are:
- Outstanding Elder Award – Marg Henderson, Yellowknife
- Outstanding Youth Award – Madison Pilling, Fort Simpson
- Outstanding Individual Award – Kurtis Sheane, Hay River
- Outstanding Group Award – Edward and Bertha Landry, Fort Providence
MACA presents the NWT Outstanding Volunteer Awards annually to individuals and groups who have helped improve quality of life in the NWT through volunteerism.
Recognizing and celebrating volunteers who build sustainable, vibrant, safe communities is an important part of the priorities set out by the 19th Legislative Assembly for community wellness and safety.

- The duration of the volunteerism; the number of years, months, and approximate number of volunteer hours the nominee committed to the activity.
- The type of involvement the nominee has had in their community or organization, and what type of volunteering they performed.
- The level of impact the nominee has had on their community or organization through their volunteer efforts.
- The recipients receive $1,000.00 to donate to a charitable organization of their choice as well as a framed porcupine quill art piece, for their efforts in building community through volunteering.
