Amendment to Vital Statistics Regulations to enter into an Information Sharing Agreement with Inuvialuit Regional Corporation

Public Service Announcement

Yellowknife — March 7, 2023

The Government of the Northwest Territories is making an amendment to the Vital Statistics Regulations to enter into an information sharing agreement with the Inuvialuit Regional Corporation (IRC). The information sharing agreement will assist in registering Inuvialuit with IRC on birth, thus enabling their enrollment to the Inuvialuit Trust on attaining the age of 18.

All births and deaths that occur in the Northwest Territories must be registered in accordance with the Vital Statistics Act. These records can only be collected, used, or disclosed (shared with another person/organization) in accordance with the Act. Section 93 allows the Registrar General of Vital Statistics to have an information sharing agreement for the disclosure of information to a person, body, or organization for use of the information if the person/body/organization is listed in the Vital Statistics Regulations.
