The Department of Health and Social Services announces changes to the Medical Travel Program effective June 1, 2019. NWT residents have access to one of the most generous medical travel programs in Canada, which has remained relatively unchanged since 1995. To bring the cost-share of medical travel costs into alignment with current travel costs of the Medical Travel Program, adjustment to the co-payment rate is being made.

The Government of the Northwest Territories advises that a new vehicle pull-out has opened adjacent to the Detah ice road.

 

The new pull-out is located approximately half way along the 6.3 kilometre ice road between Yellowknife and Detah.

Residents and tourists will benefit from the pull-out by having the option of safely stopping to enjoy winter activities, such as aurora borealis viewing. 

The attached map illustrates the layout of the pull-out, as well as the location of nearby signs.

YELLOWKNIFE (May 3, 2018) – Changes to health fees, including for health and social services professionals regulated by territorial legislation, and fees for vital statistics services, such as requests for marriage licenses or birth certificates, will come into effect on May 15, 2018. The fee changes are being carried out as part of standard procedure to review and adjust fees to reflect inflation during the past five years.

YELLOWKNIFE (April 30, 2018) - The Department of Infrastructure advises that on May 1, 2018 the Deh Cho Bridge toll rates will be increased in accordance with the NWT Consumer Price Index.  

Toll rates will be increasing by 1.2 per cent. A copy of the amended rates can be found attached to this email.

Public Service Announcement

INUVIK (February 21, 2018) – The Department of Infrastructure advises that the Inuvik Access Road (Hospital Hill) will be closed to all traffic, including emergency vehicles, beginning Thursday, February 22, 2018 for up to two months.

A full closure is required as crews will be excavating the road to replace a culvert, allowing for improved drainage and a smoother drive. All traffic will be detoured via the Marine Bypass Road/Navy Road as there is no detour around the immediate site.

YELLOWKNIFE (June 14, 2017) – Two airborne geophysical surveys will provide additional insight for prospectors and mineral development companies interested in exploration in the Slave Geological Province of the Northwest Territories (NWT). The studies, developed by the Northwest Territories Geological Survey (NTGS), provide detailed airborne magnetic and electromagnetic survey data from the promising region.
