Work is underway on two new Housing NWT duplexes destined for Tulita at the new K'áhsho Got'ı̨nę Trades Centre in Fort Good Hope.

The K'áhsho Got'ı̨nę Trades Centre celebrated its grand opening on August 28, 2026. This new manufacturing facility is run by Ne'rahten Development Ltd., the business arm of the Yamoga Land Corporation.  It supports year-round construction of modular housing, local trades capacity and community-led housing solutions. Five community-based carpentry apprentices are currently working at the Trades Centre, gaining hands-on experience. Its opening is a meaningful step toward addressing regional and territorial housing needs while strengthening the local economy.

This project will add four new social housing units to the community, in the form of two duplexes. One of these duplexes is expected to be delivered during the coming winter road season and ready to be occupied in Spring 2027. The second duplex is scheduled to be delivered the following year.

These two new Tulita duplexes are part of 10 homes planned for the community through a 98-unit project designed for single occupants that will provide duplexes and fourplexes to nine communities by Spring 2028.  Communities were selected based on where there is a demonstrated need for singles housing. In line with the NWT Territorial Housing Needs Assessment’s findings, there is a growing need for smaller housing options across the Northwest Territories, particularly for single occupants and Elders.  In Tulita, most applicants on the social housing waitlist are seeking one-bedroom units, making these homes a good match for current community needs.

This work is part of a three-year, $150-million capital investment by the Government of the Northwest Territories in response to the 20th Legislative Assembly housing priority to increase the number of affordable homes.
