Gender-affirming health care services continue to be available in the NWT for transgender residents, including children and youth.
In instances where specific services are not available, health care providers have the option to refer to an out-of-territory provider. If the required service is not available in Alberta, alternative pathways for care are in place at other locations across Canada. Like any other insured service, medical travel benefits are provided to eligible residents who are required to travel to access necessary and appropriate health services, this includes gender-affirming care.
All NWT residents have the right to respectful, dignified and culturally safe health care. Residents requiring gender-affirming care or support should speak with their health care provider for information and assistance.
