GNWT Extends Deadline for Feedback on Proposed Changes to Extended Health Benefits Policy to November 23, 2022

Public Service Announcement

Yellowknife — October 20, 2022

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has extended its deadline for feedback on the proposed changes to the Extended Health Benefits Policy. The new deadline is November 23, 2022.

Additional examples along with a calculator tool have been developed to help residents understand how the proposed changes will affect them. A virtual town hall will be held in mid-November to explain the proposed changes and to answer residents’ questions. Details on the town hall event will be provided in the coming weeks.

The intent, of the proposed policy changes, is to provide equitable access to important health benefits for all NWT residents. The changes will expand eligibility for benefits currently not covered by the NWT Health Care Plan. The extent of coverage for benefits will be determined by the individual’s ability to pay. This initiative does not include any changes to the Extended Health Benefits for Seniors program.
