GNWT to Increase Fees in Regulations Effective April 1, 2025

Public Service Announcement

Yellowknife — March 3, 2025

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is increasing fees in regulations by approximately 4% starting April 1, 2025, to reflect rising inflation. This routine adjustment will affect Real Estate Agents, Real Estate Salespersons, Business Licences, Vendors, Direct Sellers, Collection Agencies, and Plan Reviews.

The GNWT periodically reviews and adjusts its fees to align with inflation trends as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI). These increases help the GNWT to maintain service levels and modernize Acts and Regulations to meet the evolving needs of residents and businesses in the Northwest Territories (NWT).

Licensing fees for real estate agents and salespersons will rise modestly, with full-year licences for agents increasing from $204 to $212. Business owners will see resident and non-resident business licence fees increase from $210 to $218. Depending on the application period, vendors and direct sellers will experience increases between $3 and $8. Licensing fees for collection agencies will rise from $210 to $218. Additionally, the hourly rate for plan reviews will increase from $167 to $173.

The GNWT is committed to maintaining modern, responsive regulations that reflect best practices and address the needs of NWT residents and businesses. These changes ensure that licensing and compliance processes remain fair, transparent, and aligned with current economic priorities.
