The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) invites Hay River and Kátł’odeeche First Nation (KFN) residents and businesses to provide their feedback on 2022 flood recovery activities.
The GNWT is launching Phase 2 of the After Action Review (AAR) to hear the perspectives of those who were involved with recovery activities in the 2022 flood in Hay River and on the KFN Reserve. The first phase of the AAR took place in early 2023 and focused on preparedness and response.
Based on feedback collected, other analysis, and a review of practices in other provinces and territories, the GNWT will release a report outlining the results of Phases 1 and 2 and detail what worked, what lessons were learned, and other recommendations for improvements to emergency management in the Northwest Territories. It is a standard practice to complete AARs when large-scale emergencies occur.
The GNWT is specifically seeking feedback from:
- Town of Hay River residents, businesses, and officials who were involved in 2022 flood recovery and/or applied for disaster assistance
- KFN residents, businesses, and officials who received initial recovery supports
Feedback is being sought via an online survey, which is open to the public from February 14 until March 15, 2024. A public meeting is scheduled for February 23, 2024 in Hay River to collect the perspectives of individuals who received disaster assistance. Details about the meeting will be provided once they are finalized.
Direct outreach and meetings will take place with representatives of community governments and territorial officials to collect their perspectives.
The GNWT is targeting Fall 2024 for the release of the final After Action Review.
