The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is launching the Artist to Market Program (AMP) to create economic opportunities for NWT artists to showcase their talents and sell their work outside of the territory.
AMP opportunities may include activities such as markets and cultural events outside the Northwest Territories (NWT) where consumers come to see and purchase work directly from artists. The aim of AMP is to support NWT artists to participate in an identified opportunity, enabling them to show and sell their work, as well as network with potential future clients, collaborators, and supporters in southern markets.
AMP opportunities are the result of partnerships established between the NWT Arts Program and partner organizations outside the NWT. Showcasing NWT art and artists to new audiences will raise the profile of art and fine craft made in the NWT, increase the demand for these works in the marketplace and overall, further unlocking southern markets for NWT artists and Northern art as a whole.
This work aligns directly with Goal 4 of the NWT Arts Strategy to “Strengthen the NWT creative sector” and Action 4.3 to “Promote the creative sector in the territory and beyond to increase economic development opportunities for all NWT artists.”
Quote
“Connecting the NWT art sector to southern markets is a major step towards growth of the NWT economy and sustainability of Northern business. By preparing NWT artists to successfully participate in out-of-territory opportunities and supporting them through the experience, this program is helping empower entrepreneurs to realize their own potential in national and international marketplaces.”
- Caroline Wawzonek, Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment
