GNWT releases Skills 4 Success Annual Report 2021-2022

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has released the first Skills 4 Success Annual Report, which highlights results from 2021-2022 on the Skills 4 Success Action Plan 2021-2025.

The action plan outlines 17 actions to be completed by 2025 to bring about change to support adult and post-secondary education, training and skills building investments to 2025. Highlights of the 2021-2022 annual report include:

  • 20 post-secondary education programs were delivered in the Northwest Territories (NWT) that align with jobs in demand
  • 487 residents enrolled in post-secondary education programs that align with jobs in demand
  • 23 external partners received employment assistance services and supports
  • 201 students received advising sessions from Career and Education Advisors and Career Development Officers
  • 1,288 students receiving Student Financial Assistance attended programming directly related to jobs in demand
  • 24 incarcerated residents wrote 67 General Education Diploma (GED) exams, with 51 exams receiving a passing mark and two incarcerated residents completed and passed their full GED status
  • 21 Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) related courses were offered for Junior Kindergarten to Grade 9 students and 34 STEM-related courses were offered at the high school level
  • 2,529 students were enrolled in advanced STEM-related courses at the high school level
  • 213 employers and 711 employees received support from the GNWT for on-the-job learning opportunities
  • 31 GNWT employees participated and completed the Indigenous Career Gateway Program the Indigenous Management Development and Training program
  • 742 GNWT employees started transfer assignments

The GNWT committed to report annually on status and progress of the actions within, and to make the report publicly available by posting it on the Department of Education, Culture and Employment’s website by July each year. These annual reports will continue to report on the progress of supporting Skills 4 Success’ vision to ensure that NWT residents have the skills, knowledge and attitudes for employment success.

Over the remaining years of the action plan, we will continue to look ahead and take the necessary steps to build the NWT’s workforce with the Skills 4 Success vision, evidence-based data, and stakeholder support.
