Have your say on the delivery of Rural and Remote Bachelor of Education program

Public Service Announcement

Yellowknife — May 8, 2023

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is seeking input on a post-secondary education institution application to deliver a degree-granting program in the territory. Vancouver Island University is applying to provide the Rural and Remote Bachelor of Education Program within the Northwest Territories, with a proposed effective date of September 2023.

In December 2022, the Northwest Territories Post-Secondary Education Act and Regulations came into force as part of the GNWT’s work to build a comprehensive post-secondary education system. Within the system, when an institution wishes to provide a degree-granting program in the NWT, they submit a system coordination application which is posted for 15 business days for public and existing NWT post-secondary institution review. Vancouver Island University’s application marks the first application received by the GNWT under the new system.

Feedback will be collected on until May 23, 2023. More information is available on the GNWT’s engagement website.
