Have Your Say on the proposed Child Support Recalculation Service Regulations

Public Service Announcement

Yellowknife — June 6, 2022

The Department of Justice is gathering public feedback on the proposed regulations for the Child Support Recalculation Service.

The Child Support Recalculation Service will be a free service available to families with eligible child support orders and agreements, either under the territorial Children’s Law Act or the federal Divorce Act. Currently, when parents wish to have their child support orders updated, they have to go to court, which is often time-consuming, stressful and expensive.

The Child Support Recalculation Service is intended to reduce the need for parents to go to court to update child support amounts. This service will allow for support amounts to be recalculated annually based on updated income information.

The Department of Justice has drafted regulations that set out the rules on how the Child Support Recalculation Service will operate. NWT residents are invited to review the proposed regulations to the Child Support Recalculation Service and can submit comments to HaveYourSayDOJ@gov.nt.ca by July 5, 2022.  This feedback will help to inform any potential amendments to the proposed draft regulations.
