Have Your Say on Proposed Fire Prevention Act Regulations Changes

Public Service Announcement

Yellowknife — July 2, 2024

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is seeking public feedback on two sets of proposed regulations following Bill 67: An Act to Amend the Fire Prevention Act.

New Plan Review Appeal Board Regulations

Recent amendments to the Act make any requirements from the Office of the Fire Marshal in a plan review report binding as orders.

The proposed Plan Review Appeals Board Regulations will govern the process to appeal plan review orders issued by the Office of the Fire Marshal.

Updated Code Adoption Regulations

This proposal would amend the existing Fire Prevention Regulations to follow the National Building Code of Canada 2020 as well as the National Fire Code of Canada 2020.

Until these amendments come into force, these regulations instruct builders to follow the 2015 National Building Code and National Fire Code.

Have Your Say

Feedback provided during this engagement period will be reviewed, summarized, and considered before these proposed regulations are finalized.

You can provide input by emailing WhatWeHeard-MACA@gov.nt.ca by August 6, 2024. You can also learn more and provide feedback here.
