Applications are now open for spots on the Northwest Territories Social Assistance Appeal Board. Interested residents are encouraged to apply to serve as members of the Board.
What does the Social Assistance Appeal Board do?
This Board is the final level of appeal for people who have applied for a social assistance program and disagree with the decision made. The appeals are specifically related to the Income Assistance or Income Assistance for Seniors or Persons with Disabilities programs.
The Board operates under these authorities:
- Northwest Territories Social Assistance Act
- Related Income Security Program regulations, policies and guidelines
After considering the appeal, the Board either affirms, reverses or varies a previous decision. Usually, the earlier decision was made by a Social Assistance Appeal Committee at the first appeal level.
How to apply:
Someone with experience or a background in social policy, law or interpreting legislation would be a great fit. If the application is successful, the Minister appoints the person as a member to the Board for a four-year term.
Is serving on this Board of interest to you? If yes, please submit a one-page letter of interest with a current resume to: Appeals_Office@gov.nt.ca.
Submit your application on or before the deadline of October 22, 2025 at 5 p.m. MST.
