The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) will re-open Highway 7 at the BC/NWT border near Fort Liard to permitted inbound and outbound traffic two days a week starting Tuesday, November 30
Travellers will be able to use the border crossing on Tuesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. only, and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., and 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (split hours)
Northwest Territories (NWT) residents must submit a self-isolation plan (SIP) within 24-hours of entry into the territory, while non-residents must provide an approved SIP at the Highway 7 border checkpoint.
The change in hours of operation at the Highway 7 border crossing is one in a series of changes leading to an eventual full re-opening of the BC/NWT border crossing.
To reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission, the Office of the Chief Public Health Officer, the COVID-19 Coordinating Secretariat and the Department of Infrastructure worked with Fort Liard community leadership to confirm the highway re-opening when the local vaccination rate reached 80% in the eligible population of 12 years and older. This milestone was achieved on, Monday, November 22, 2021
During the scheduled opening times, Public Health Officers will provide education and ensure compliance with the Public Health Orders outlined in the COVID-19 Travel Restrictions and Self-Isolation Public Health Order.
