Housing NWT New Project: Singles Multi-Unit Residential Building in Hay River

News Releases

Yellowknife — December 9, 2025

Housing NWT is pleased to announce that a new Singles Multi-Unit Residential Building will be built in Hay River. This new project will replace an aging 28-unit singles social housing complex. The new 30-unit modern building is designed to better meet the needs of residents.

This building will provide safe, inclusive, and community-oriented housing for individuals. Design features were informed by SafeGrowth and Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles to enhance public and tenant safety. This includes things like clear sightlines to reduce hidden areas, good lighting in shared spaces and entryways, and design features that encourages neighbours to look out for one another.

This project is in its initial stages and construction is projected to start in Summer 2026.

This project is being funded through a portion of Housing NWT’s three-year (2025-2026 to 2027-2028) $150 million capital plan.

A Request for Proposals (RFP) is posted on the NWT Contract Event Opportunities Website and closes on January 12, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. MST.
