News Releases

Yellowknife — October 28, 2025

Marine Transportation Services (MTS) has completed its 2025 resupply season with deliveries of essential cargo and fuel to 10 northern communities.

This annual scheduled service provides cost-effective resupply to residents and businesses in communities along the Mackenzie River, Great Slave Lake, and up into the Western Arctic and Kitikmeot Regions.

Over 18 million litres of fuel and over 2,000 revenue tonnes of cargo were delivered to 10 communities including Łutselkʼe, Tulita, Norman Wells, Fort Good Hope, Inuvik, Tuktoyaktuk, Ulukhaktok, Sachs Harbour, Paulatuk, and Kugluktuk.

In preparation for the sailing season, MTS worked with the Department of Infrastructure’s (INF) Fuel Services Division to manage fuel logistics, along with hydrologists from the Department of Environment and Climate Change (ECC) to monitor water and snowpack level. MTS was also supported by the Canadian Coast Guard, who ensure the placement of buoys on the Mackenzie River.

Quote

“Marine Transportation Services works hard every year to ensure that residents and businesses who rely on its services for freight and fuel get these supplies in a cost-effective and timely manner. The work done every sailing season includes northern businesses, partnerships with industry and communities, and multiple departments across the GNWT. We learn more each year about how external factors affect our operations and will continue to look for ways to ensure and improve the safe and accurate delivery of our barges to northern residents.”

- Vince McKay, Minister of Infrastructure
