Marine Transportation Services completes successful 2026 community resupply season

News Releases

Marine Transportation Services (MTS) has completed its 2026 resupply season, delivering essential fuel and cargo to communities across the Northwest Territories.

This year's sailing season included planned community resupply to the East Arm of Great Slave Lake, the Sahtu Region and the Inuvialuit Settlement Region.

MTS delivered approximately 25.7 million litres of fuel and 5,512 revenue tonnes of cargo during the 2026 season.

Water levels and other environmental conditions continue to be important factors in marine operations. This year, heavy pack ice in the Beaufort Sea and Amundsen Gulf also affected schedules, including a three-week delay for the tanker bringing in fuel for the Inuvialuit Settlement Region.

MTS adjusted its plans as conditions changed and worked with partners to keep deliveries moving. Communities and customers were kept informed as schedules changed throughout the season.

We want to thank the MTS crews and staff, along with the Canadian Coast Guard, Fuel Services Division, hydrologists, contractors, suppliers, vessel operators and communities who helped make this year's resupply season a success.

“Marine Transportation Services plays an important role in keeping northern communities supplied with the fuel and cargo they need. This year's results show the work that goes into planning and adapting to changing conditions throughout the sailing season.”
