On November 16, 2022 at 1:55 pm MST, the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) will issue a live test of NWT Alert, the Northwest Territories (NWT) public alerting system. Residents may see and hear the public alert test on wireless devices, cable networks and radio stations across the NWT.
NWT Alert is the NWT’s public alerting system designed to keep our residents and visitors informed. For information during an emergency, check with your community government and visit www.NWTalert.ca.
NWT Alert is a part of the larger Alert Ready system, a partnership of federal, provincial, and territorial emergency management officials, Environment Canada and the broadcast industry. It is designed to deliver critical and potentially life-saving alerts to Canadians through television, radio, and wireless devices.
It is important to note that not all residents will receive the test alert on their wireless device. This may occur for a variety of reasons, including device compatibility, connection to an LTE network, cell tower coverage, device software and settings. The public is encouraged to check their device compatibility on their wireless service provider’s website and ensure that their device has the latest software update installed.
For more information on public alerting and the Alert Ready system visit www.alertready.ca. For more information on the development of NWT Alert Ready, look for updates on the Municipal and Community Affairs website at www.MACA.gov.nt.ca.
