NWT Athletes and Youth Ambassadors Ready to Represent at 2025 Canada Games

Public Service Announcement

Yellowknife — August 7, 2025

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) extends its best wishes to the members of Team NT and the NWT Youth Ambassadors as they represent the territory at the 2025 Canada Games in St. John’s, Newfoundland, from August 8-25, 2025.

Held every two years, the Canada Games showcase Canadian athletes at the highest level of national competition, alternating between summer and winter editions. This year, the 2025 Canada Summer Games Host Society and the City of St. John’s will welcome over 4,000 athletes from across Canada. Team NT is represented by 130 athletes from Fort Simpson, Fort Smith, Gametì, Hay River, Inuvik, Łutselk’e, Norman Wells, Tulita, Ulukhaktok, and Yellowknife. Team NT will be competing in eight sports, namely athletics, basketball, beach volleyball, soccer, swimming, tennis, volleyball, and wrestling.

Team NT’s participation is made possible thanks to the dedication of 51 coaches, managers, and mission staff working tirelessly to ensure a great experience for our athletes. Their efforts are supported by countless volunteers, including those from Sport North Federation and Territorial Sport Organizations, who play a vital role in team selection and management. Volunteers are the backbone of sport and recreation programs that promote a healthier and more active Northwest Territories.

The GNWT is proud to support Team NT through financial assistance and a variety of programs that foster the development of athletes and coaches at the local, regional, territorial, and national levels.

In addition to Team NT, the GNWT is pleased to support the NWT Youth Ambassadors Program at the 2025 Canada Summer Games. This program provides youth with a structured and guided volunteer experience at major events, helping them build life and job skills, confidence, and leadership. Thirteen youth aged 16 to 18 from eight communities across the NWT will be volunteering with the Host Society. These young leaders deserve recognition for embracing this opportunity to grow and contribute meaningfully to the Games.
Best of luck to all athletes, coaches, volunteers, and Youth Ambassadors participating in the 2025 Canada Games!
