With warm weather, the snowmelt from mountains in BC, Yukon, and the NWT is beginning to hit the water system. This will contribute to high water levels and flow in the Liard and South Nahanni Rivers.
The communities of Fort Liard and Nahanni Butte should be on high alert for possible flooding in the coming days.

Fort Liard
Water levels remain high. The Hamlet has activated flood watch.
Nahanni Butte
Water levels remain well above average today are reported as comparable to previous flood affected years. The South Nahanni River flow (upstream) as of noon today has increased steadily over the past couple of days and noted to be below maximum values seen in open water conditions.
The community is preparing for potential flooding and evacuation (ie: emptying and securing fuel storage tanks, securing sewage tanks, moving equipment to higher ground).
A planned partial power outage is scheduled for Sunday, June 12 6am-9am to replace a power pole near the Highways yard. Information regarding the planned outage has been provided to residents by NTPC.
Fort Simpson
The Village of Fort Simpson, MACA and Dehcho Health and Social Services completed a hosting tabletop exercise this week in preparation to receive potential evacuees.
The Department of Health and Social Services is pre-positioning emergency evacuation centre supplies in Fort Simpson to meet the needs of potential evacuees.
Hay River and Kátł’odeeche First Nation
The Hay River and Kátł’odeeche First Nation emergency has transitioned from response to recovery.
Communities are the lead on response and recovery activities and are supported by the GNWT as needed.
Assessments continue in Hay River and Kátł’odeeche First Nation.
All impacted residents are reminded to register as soon as possible to be included in the Disaster Assistance process.
