The Northwest Territories Housing Corporation (NWTHC) continues to move forward with its unprecedented level of capital delivery to address core housing needs across the Territory. This means more homes will be built and repaired in communities across the Northwest Territories, while also providing employment and economic opportunities in these communities.
In total, this capital delivery encompasses over $93 million and involves 364 housing units. Of these 364 impacted units, 45 units are new builds for the RCMP, 104 will be NWTHC units and 213 units will undergo major repairs and modernization over the next three years.
Throughout this process, the NWTHC has worked with NWT contractors to maximize cost certainty to help mitigate supply chain difficulties caused by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, as part of every construction contract, the NWTHC requires at least one apprentice to be employed in the project.
Going forward, the Housing Corporation will continue to meet regularly with community and Indigenous Government leadership to discuss the status of these projects and ensure that communities can meaningfully participate in this process.
