Northwest Territories residents who receive health care in Alberta are now able to access a MyHealth Alberta Account, giving them online access to records related to the care they receive within Alberta.
This is an important step forward for NWT residents, many of whom travel to Alberta for specialized health services that are not available in the territory. In 2025, approximately 8,400 NWT residents received health care services in Alberta, with nearly 95,000 health system encounters over the past 13 months.
Through this initiative, eligible NWT residents can securely view and download information related to care they receive through the Alberta healthcare system. Access to this information helps residents better understand and manage their care, supports informed conversations with health care providers, and strengthens continuity of care when they return home.
Access will be provided for up to one year, or until the expiry of the government-issued identification used for verification. Secure digital identity verification will be used as part of the application process.
This initiative reflects ongoing collaboration between the governments of the Northwest Territories and Alberta to improve health care experiences for residents and support safer, more coordinated care across jurisdictions.

Quote
“Many NWT residents travel to Alberta for care, and as a former health care worker, I know how important it is for patients and providers to have access to their personal health information when they need it. This change gives residents more direct access to records related to the care they receive in Alberta, helping them stay informed and supporting safer, more coordinated care when they return home. This is an important step forward for Northerners and a strong example of practical collaboration with the Government of Alberta.”
- Lesa Semmler, Minister of Health and Social
“Albertans expect a healthcare system that is connected, efficient and focused on patients. Making it easier for Northwest Territories residents to access their Alberta health information helps improve continuity of care, reduces unnecessary barriers and ensures patients have the information they need to transition care back to local providers.”
- Justin Wright, Alberta’s Minister of Primary and Preventative Health Services
