Premier R.J. Simpson issued the following statement today on the election of the Inuvialuit Regional Corporation Chair:
“On behalf of the Government of the Northwest Territories, I congratulate Erwin Elias on his election as Chair of the Inuvialuit Regional Corporation.
Mr. Elias has proven leadership experience and a strong connection to his community, and I wish him every success as he takes on this role. I have had a positive working relationship with Mr. Elias in the past and look forward to continuing to work with him in his new capacity as Chair.
The Government of the Northwest Territories values its strong relationship with the Inuvialuit Regional Corporation. That relationship is built on mutual respect and a shared commitment to improving the lives of people and communities across the Inuvialuit Settlement Region and the Northwest Territories. I look forward to working with Chair Elias and the IRC Board on shared priorities that matter to Northerners.
I also want to recognize outgoing Chair Duane Smith for his many years of leadership and advocacy on behalf of Inuvialuit. I thank him for his service and know that his commitment to Inuvialuit values and communities will continue in whatever he takes on next.
Best wishes to Chair Elias as he begins his term and takes on this important responsibility.”
