Proposed Meat Processing Safety Regulations

Public Service Announcement

Yellowknife — May 27, 2024

The Government of Northwest Territories (GNWT) is seeking feedback from the public and stakeholders on the proposed Meat Processing Safety Regulations. Input received from public and stakeholder engagement conducted from December 2021 to February 2022 helped inform the development of these proposed regulations.

Establishing these regulations will help facilitate the availability of locally produced meat and meat products from privately raised livestock to NWT consumers. These regulations set out requirements for production, distribution, and sale to ensure that meat and meat products are handled and prepared using safe methods.

Input will be accepted until June 27, 2024.

The development of these regulations has also led to consequential amendments to the Food Establishment Safety Regulations and Disease Surveillance Regulations. Therefore, the GNWT is also seeking feedback from the public and stakeholders on the proposed changes to these regulations.
