Réfection du pont du chenal Frank

Yellowknife, le 25 janvier 2017 – À partir du 1er mai 2017 (ou près de cette date), le ministère des Transports procédera à d’importants travaux de réfection sur le pont du chenal Frank, situé au kilomètre 243,8 de la route de Yellowknife (route 3).

Puisque le pont est la seule façon de traverser le chenal Frank, la circulation continuera pendant les travaux, avec quelques retards prévus et contrôlés. Ces travaux auront lieu entre mai et octobre en 2017 et en 2018.

Yellowknife, le 16 décembre – Le ministre des Finances, Robert C. McLeod, a confirmé aujourd’hui que le gouvernement des Territoires du Nord-Ouest (GTNO) avait fait l’acquisition des actifs de la Société des transports du Nord limitée (STNL) pour un montant de 7,5 millions de dollars. Cette mesure opportune vise à protéger la chaîne d’approvisionnement en produits pétroliers pour les collectivités des Territoires du Nord-Ouest (TNO) le long du fleuve Mackenzie et de la côte arctique.

It is an honour to serve in this role recognizing the significant part that infrastructure plays in the success of our residents, our communities, our businesses, and the future prosperity of the Northwest Territories.

Thank you for meeting with the Government of the Northwest Territories this afternoon.

We are in Ottawa this week to speak with the Prime Minister, Cabinet Ministers and Standing Committees about some of the most significant challenges facing the people of the Northwest Territories today.

Before we get to that presentation, I would like to take a few minutes to talk a little bit about our territory.

Community sustainability is a huge challenge for the people of the Northwest Territories.

Yellowknife, le 16 novembre 2016 – Au Canada, le 16 novembre correspond à la Journée nationale du souvenir des victimes de la route. Depuis 2007, des citoyens, des groupes de soutien et des intervenants en sécurité routière d’un océan à l’autre unissent leurs efforts en cette journée pour honorer la mémoire des victimes de la route et rappeler que les pratiques de conduite sécuritaire aident à sauver des vies.

Wally Schumann: Economic Potential of the Yellowknife Airport

Mr. Speaker, today I would like to provide an overview of the Department of Transportation’s efforts to capture economic opportunities at the Yellowknife Airport.

The Department is taking steps to make the Yellowknife Airport financially self-sufficient. By running the Airport more like a business, we will be able to make capital improvements, create jobs, and explore opportunities to drive economic growth across the territory.

Wally Schumann: Climate Change and Transportation Infrastructure

Mr. Speaker, I would like to provide an update on the Department of Transportation’s research and development activities into adapting our transportation infrastructure to the effects of climate change. Increasing our knowledge and better understanding how climate change affects infrastructure is the first step in developing adaptation strategies. The scientific information gathered through climate change research has already made a difference in northern infrastructure planning, design, construction and maintenance and will be a game-changer in the future. 

Wally Schumann: Private and Public Partnerships

Mr. Speaker, the Department of Transportation is committed to working with public and private sector partners to continue to improve transportation infrastructure across the Northwest Territories under the Mandate of the 18th Legislative Assembly.

Our government strongly believes in working collaboratively with various levels of government, from Aboriginal and municipal authorities to the federal government, as well as with our private sector partners.
