May 26, 2011 - Martin Goldney has been appointed as Chief Negotiator for the Government of the Northwest Territories on the Devolution of Lands and Resources.

May 18, 2011 - Premier Floyd K. Roland honoured 56 recipients and several organizations with Premier’s Awards for Excellence and Collaboration today. The recipients include GNWT employees, teams and their collaborative partners. A ceremony was held this morning at the Great Hall of the Legislative Assembly.

November 22, 2010 - The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is working closely with fuel suppliers in the North Slave Region to ensure that adequate supplies continue to be available to fuel distributors in the communities of Fort Providence, Behchoko and Yellowknife.

November 15, 2010 - Premier Floyd Roland says Canada’s endorsement on Friday of the UN’s Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples is an encouraging and tangible demonstration of the federal governments’ renewed commitment to  Canada’s Aboriginal people.

“Aboriginal cultures, values and traditions are a rich and equal part of our nation’s proud history,” the Premier said.  “I congratulate the federal government for recognizing and taking this important step that will serve to advance and strengthen our relationships collectively as Canadians.”

November 5, 2010 - Premier Floyd Roland and the Northwest Territories’ regional Aboriginal leaders met last night to discuss issues relating to the draft Devolution Agreement-in-Principle (AiP).

The meeting between the Premier and Aboriginal leaders is the latest step in the ongoing Devolution negotiations process.

“We had a healthy discussion on the importance of Devolution and the AiP,” the Premier said. “We have agreed to work on a process that will allow us to move forward with the AiP.”

November 5, 2010 - Premier Floyd Roland will travel to Helsinki this weekend where he will deliver a key note address at the “Arctic Future – Cooperation in the Face of Change” seminar on November 8, 2010.

Given its importance to NWT residents, Premier Roland has become a leading proponent for building international understanding and cooperation on key issues impacting the Circumpolar North and promoting the importance of Northern decision making and cooperation in the face of growing global interest in the Arctic.

November 4, 2010 - Premier Roland highlighted the next steps towards devolution today in the Legislative Assembly.

Mr. Speaker, the transfer of authority for public lands and resources to the Government of the Northwest Territories will create major benefits and opportunities for our people.

Approval of the proposed AiP will be a critical step in our negotiations with Canada, but it is just another step. It is not the final agreement and it will not be legally binding.

October 29, 2010 - Premier Floyd Roland says he hopes Aboriginal governments in the Northwest Territories will be prepared to take the next step in the process to advance a proposed Devolution Agreement-in-Principle (AiP).

The Premier presented a history of the AiP process to Members of the Legislative Assembly this morning. While the draft AiP is not binding, it provides the necessary parameters for negotiations leading to a final agreement on Devolution.
