YELLOWKNIFE (October 23, 2015) – The Department of Municipal and Community Affairs has announced the nine non-government organizations (NGOs) that will receive funding through the 2015-2016 Non-Government Organization Stabilization Fund.
YELLOWKNIFE (October 22, 2015) – The Tłı̨chǫ Government has advised the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) of its decision to not harvest the Bathurst Caribou herd for the 2015/16 hunting season.
“We applaud the Tłı̨chǫ Government for showing strong leadership in dealing with this crisis,” said J. Michael Miltenberger, Minister of the Environment and Natural Resources. “It is a very tough choice that recognizes the need for strong actions to conserve the Bathurst herd for current and future generations.”
YELLOWKNIFE (October 21, 2015) – The Government of Northwest Territories (GNWT), through Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA), conducted an after action review of the 2014 wildfire season and the civil emergency response to identify recommendations to improve the NWT’s ability to help prepare for and respond to emergency events in the future.
The 2014 wildfire season was the most severe season on record for the Northwest Territories (NWT), resulting in impacts which posed considerable challenges for the NWT emergency response system.
YELLOWKNIFE (October 16, 2014) – The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) and the contractor building the Inuvik-Tuktoyaktuk Highway (ITH) have come to a confidential business agreement in accordance with the contract terms and conditions to continue construction on the highway. The agreement will not affect the overall project budget.
YELLOWKNIFE (October 16, 2015) – The Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI) is introducing a two-year temporary Assessment Work Incentive for exploration activities conducted by recorded mineral claim holders in the NWT.
ITI Minister David Ramsay says the move comes in response to a recommendation in the NWT Mineral Development Strategy and is supported by the Mining Industry Advisory Board (MIAB).
