YELLOWKNIFE (October 2, 2015) –Workshops designed to assist families going through relationship breakdowns will be expanded further to allow residents of Fort Smith, Norman Wells and Inuvik to access services effective October 8, 2015.

YELLOWKNIFE (October 1, 2015) – Premier Bob McLeod tabled new guidelines in the Legislative Assembly today that will govern the activities of Ministers and the public service during the upcoming election period and following days before the establishment of the next Legislative Assembly. The Cabinet Operational Guidelines During a Transition Period set out the principles of restraint during the campaign and the broader period of time around the creation of a new government called the ‘transition period’.

YELLOWKNIFE (September 30, 2015) – The NWT Film Commission is proud to be a sponsor of the 9^th annual Yellowknife International Film Festival (YKIFF), which opened Monday. 

Founded and coordinated by Western Arctic Moving Pictures (WAMP), the week-long event will feature artist workshops and professional development opportunities, in addition to the screening of 39 feature and short films from around the world, including 11 from the NWT.

YELLOWKNIFE (September 30, 2015) – The Department of Health and Social Services is encouraging NWT residents to talk about organ and tissue donation with their families. The “Life is Sacred – Become a Donor” campaign aims to raise awareness in the NWT about organ and tissue donation.

YELLOWKNIFE (September 28, 2015) –  Population surveys completed this summer on  the Bluenose East, Bluenose West, Bathurst, Cape Bathurst and Tuktoyaktuk Peninsula barren-ground caribou herds in the Northwest Territories indicate the herds continue to decline.

YELLOWKNIFE (September 25, 2015) – Following a harvesting season of about 60 days it is estimated that between 280,000 and 300,000 lbs. of morel mushrooms were harvested in the North Slave Region and the area north of Fort Providence this summer.

Harvest numbers for the rest of the South Slave and Dehcho Regions are still being assessed. 

YELLOWKNIFE (September 24, 2015) – The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is currently reviewing a claim for an additional $32 million made by EGT Northwind, the project company constructing the Inuvik Tuktoyaktuk Highway. The claim amount has not yet been substantiated or verified by the GNWT.

YELLOWKNIFE (September 24, 2015) – Finance Minister J. Michael Miltenberger announced today that the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has signed an agreement with Boreal Health Partnership (BHP) to design, build, finance and maintain the Stanton Territorial Hospital.

The GNWT selected BHP following an evaluation of competitive proposals submitted by pre-qualified proponents.  Today’s announcement formalizes the selection of BHP as the preferred proponent to work on the hospital.

AKLAVIK (September 24, 2015) – The Honourable Robert C. McLeod, Minister of the Northwest Territories Housing Corporation (NWTHC), is pleased to announce the grand opening of the Joe Greenland Centre in Aklavik on September 14, the community’s new Seniors Independent Living Facility.

YELLOWKNIFE (September 22, 2015) – Recipients of the Council of the Federation Literacy Award and the NWT Ministerial Literacy Awards were honoured today during the annual Adult Learners’ Luncheon in Yellowknife.

These awards were created by the Minister of Education, Culture and Employment in 2002 and the Council of the Federation in 2005 to recognize adult learners that have overcome learning and literacy challenges or championed literacy to learners of all ages.
