NWT rated best overall improvement in Canada for mineral investment

YELLOWKNIFE (March 15, 2013) – The world is taking notice of the Northwest Territories’ mineral potential, with the territory ranking 29th most attractive jurisdiction for mineral exploration and development in the world and the best overall improvement in Canada according to the Fraser Institute's 2012-2013 annual survey of mining companies.

New population estimates for the Beverly and Ahiak caribou subpopulations

IQALUIT, Nunavut (March 7, 2013) – The Government of Nunavut, Department of Environment, successfully completed a population estimate of the Beverly and Ahiak barren-ground caribou herds. The June 2011 survey examined caribou abundance on the Beverly calving grounds in the vicinity of Beverly Lake and the Queen Maud Gulf, as well as the calving range of the Ahiak subpopulation in the vicinity of the Adelaide peninsula, east to Pelly Bay.

Deadline for Public Input on Economic Opportunities Extended

YELLOWKNIFE (March 6, 2013) The deadline to provide written submissions on the NWT Economic Opportunities Strategy has been extended to March 31. NWT residents and organizations can submit their feedback on the economic opportunities and barriers they see in their communities and regions via the Strategy website.

Minister of Industry Tourism and Investment David Ramsay says grassroots input is critical to ensuring that the Economic Opportunities Strategy reflects the needs of all regions and sectors in the NWT.
