Behchokǫ̀ was founded in 1852 as a Hudson’s Bay Company post and is now home to over 2,000 people making it the largest Indigenous community in the Northwest Territories. The community is located an hour's drive northwest of Yellowknife and has year round road access.
There are two elementary schools in the community along with a regional high school that serves students from all four Tłı̨chǫ communities.
The Tłı̨chǫ Community Services Agency provides child and family services, as well as education and health programs and services throughout the Tłı̨chǫ territory.
