Fort Simpson

Fort Simpson is home to more than 1,200 people and is the regional centre of the Dehcho.  The community is accessible by vehicle year round, except during freeze up and break-up, which halt ferry and ice road services across the Liard River. This community is considered the gateway into Nahanni National Park, a designated UNESCO world heritage site and home of Virginia Falls.

There is plenty to keep residents busy throughout the year with a naturally cooled ice rink, community centre, nine-hole golf course and easy access to year-round outdoor activities. The community has several restaurant options as well as an impressive Canada Day celebration called the Open Sky Festival.

Students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6 are taught at Bompas Elementary School before moving to Thomas Simpson Secondary School for Grades 7 - 12.
