Department Information
The mandate of the Department of Justice is to administer justice, including policing, community justice, victims services and corrections in the Northwest Territories. This mandate will be carried out in a manner which respects community and indigenous values and encourages communities to assume increasing responsibilities.
Job Information
Reporting to the Regional Probation Manager or Senior Probation Officer, the Probation Officer supervises adult and youth offenders in the community, promotes public safety and restorative justice, and supports offender rehabilitation and reintegration. The role works closely with justice and community partners to provide case management, monitor compliance with court-ordered conditions, and ensure services are delivered in accordance with applicable legislation, policies, and correctional standards.
Critical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities;
- Ability to develop programs and procedures and control their implementation.
- Theoretical understanding of human behaviour and offender issues.
- Ability to interpret legislation, policy and court documents (i.e. probation orders, prosecutor information sheet, etc.).
- Ability to develop community members (volunteers and agencies), in both experiential and formal learning approaches.
- Understanding of corrections policies and procedures and security operations.
Typically attained by;
A Diploma in a Social Science related field combined with two (2) years¿ current case management experience in the Corrections/Social Services field. A class 5 drivers license
Equivalencies may include
- A degree in a Social Science related field combined with one (1) years¿ current case management experience in the Corrections/Social Services field. A class 5 drivers license
- A certificate in a Social Science related field or CNRTP combined with three (3) years¿ current case management experience in the Corrections/Social Services field. A class 5 drivers license

Salary Information
The salary range for this position is from $54.44 per hour to $65.03 per hour (approximately $106,158 - $126,809.) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $4,538
