Job Information

The Local Foods Outreach Coordinator plays a key role in supporting community-based local food initiatives in Fort Smith. Reporting to the Manager, the Coordinator develops, coordinates, and delivers programming related to local food systems, including growing, harvesting, and traditional knowledge practices.

This position works closely with Indigenous governments, community organizations, researchers, and residents to build capacity, strengthen partnerships, and promote food sustainability initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the development and delivery of local foods programming, including workshops, training, and community activities
  • Build and maintain partnerships with Indigenous governments, community organizations, harvesters, and other stakeholders. 
  • Organize and facilitate community engagement activities, including events, workshops, excursions, and demonstrations. 
  • Develop and implement outreach and communication strategies (e.g., social media, newsletters, campaigns). 
  • Promote science, research, and local food initiatives through public education and engagement activities

Key Qualifications

  • Completion of a Bachelor's Degree related to Community Development, Education, Geography, Communications, Horticulture, Agriculture, Environmental Studies, 
    General Sciences, or another related field. 
  • Two (2) years of experience coordinating or delivering programming.
  • Experience coordinating programs, community initiatives, or outreach activities
  • Experience organizing and facilitating workshops, meetings, and public events
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work independently
  • Skills in project coordination, proposal writing, and program development are considered assets
